Dean's Message

Faculty of Science was established in 1966 which now includes seven scientific departments: Mathematics, Computer science, Chemistry, Physics, Biological sciences, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Statistics and Operations Research.

Through the scientific departments, The Faculty of Science offers eighteen study programs for the undergraduate students in various fields like Financial Mathematics, Computer science, Chemistry, Applied Chemistry, Physics, Engineering Physics, which includes Digital systems, Remote sensing, laser communications , Zoology, Botany, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Geology, Desert Science, Marine Science, Environmental Science, Statistics, Operations Research and Applied Statistics.

Besides the college students enrolled in these programs, the college offers its services to the students of Faculty colleges of Engineering, Center of Medical Sciences ,and Allied Health Sciences, to equip them with basic science necessary for scientific specialization

The Faculty of Science is keen in providing the atmosphere and appropriate academic requirements enabling the department to achieve remarkable level in the area of science which is a unique characteristic of Faulty of Science compared to other university faculties. In addition to the educational aspect, the Faculty of Science, in cooperation and coordination with the Deanship of Student Affairs, plays a prominent role in the establishing the university students by building their character and composition of culture, showcasing their talents, encouraging the practice of cultural and artistic activities, social and sports events in order to overcome the obstacles that hinder their education.. There is no doubt that the Office of Guidance and Counseling faculty plays an active and prominent role in this area extending the attention of the college to include graduate programs, where the college offers a program for the tenth master's degree in various disciplines offered by the Department along with the two programs, one for the PHD. degree in Chemistry and one in Mathematics. Furthermore, the faculty is currently working on the study of the doctoral program in Microbiology.

Scientific research has great interest by the college and scientific departments by supporting and encouraging research activities of faculty members and providing technical services offered by the various specialized units, centers and offices, workshops and its affiliates. Electron Microscopy Unit, which boasts the latest hardware in this area, Projects, as well as public facilities (SAF), is working to provide a high quality of technical services to researchers from inside and outside the college. Moreover, there are research centers of radiation and environmental Biotechnology, which contributes to other units in support of the faculty . The college is also able to achieve a quantum leap in the field of construction projects from which now it has a science laboratory building and the building of new classrooms. Moreover, the interest of the college is to keep pace with the rapid developments in electronic progress in different areas. The Office of Information Systems was established several years ago in the college, which contributed to the implementation of several important projects including the automation of administrative work using computer applications in order to facilitate the documentary cycle management by linking all sections of the College through a sophisticated electronic system to share documents effectively.

It was also to convert the manual system currently used for archiving to an electronic system for the retrieval of documents. In addition, it has established an extension system mail to students who helped the college view circulars, information and guidance on the educational process directly to students through display screens distributed throughout the college, and finally assissted the college to develop the information network to keep pace with technical developments in this area.

Other than this,the college also has the office of consulting and training, which is one of the specialized offices in the college. It is entrusted with the task of offering specialized training courses for the staff of ministries and institutions, private companies, as well as holding sessions on the academic abilities of high school students wishing to enroll in the university in order to qualify them to pass the placement tests in Chemistry and Mathematics. The office provides scientific advice to the state institutions and various other public and private companies for analysis of samples through General Facility Lab (GRF) and Central Environmental Lab (CEL).
